Types of Language Qualifications, Approved Grades

1.1. IELTS (International English Language Testing System)

  • Two types of tests:
    • IELTS Academic: For university studies.
    • IELTS General Training: For immigration and work schedules.

  • Scoring scale: 0 to 9.
  • Required Score:
    • College Education: Usually 6.0 to 7.5 (depending on the university).

1.2. TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language)

  • Test format: iBT (online test) or PBT (paper).
  • Scoring scale: 0 to 120 (iBT).
  • Required Score:
    • University Education: Usually 80 to 110.
    • Immigration: Less used.

1.3. CELPIP (Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program)

  • Two types of tests:

2. French Language Qualifications

2.1. TEF Canada (French Evaluation Test)

  • Comparative examples:
    • Club 7:
      • IELTS: A score of 6 in each section.

4. Requirements for Immigration Programs

  • Express Entry:
    • A minimum  of CLB 7 for immigration through skilled labor.
  • Provincial Programs (PNPs):
    • Language requirements vary and may be lower than CLB 7.
  • Canadian Citizenship:
    • CLB 4 in CELPIP-General LS or equivalent tests.

5. Academic Requirements

  • Universities typically accept one of these degrees:
