SIN  for International Students

Can international students get a Sin Number?

Yes, international students who enter Canada  with a Study Permit  can receive a  Social Insurance Number (SIN). Obtaining a Social Insurance Number (SIN) is necessary to work in Canada or receive some government benefits.

Conditions for receiving the Scene Number:

  1. Certified Master Permit:
    • Your Master's Permit must include a work permit. If your Master's Permit includes phrases such as "May accept employment" or "May work" , you are allowed to work in Canada and can get a sequel number.
  2. Service Canada:
    • You can visit the nearest Service Canada  office or submit your application online to get a sin number.
    • The required documents include:
      • Certified Master Permit
      • Passport
      • Residential Address in Canada
  3. Temporary SIN (SIN starting with 9):
    • International students usually receive a Sin number, which starts with the number 9. This indicates your temporary status in Canada.

Important Notes:

  • Sin Nombre allows you to work a limited time (such as 20 hours per week during the academic term and full-time work on holidays), in accordance with international student labor laws.
  • Never share your Sin number with others, except in legal cases such as providing it to an employer or bank.
