National
Classification of Occupations of Canada NOC
The National Occupational Classification (NOC) is a
system for describing the jobs of Canadians. Through this system,
statisticians, labor market analysts, career counselors, employers, and job seekers
have a standard way of describing and understanding a specific job.
The National Classification of Occupations organizes about
30,000 job titles into 500 occupational groups, 6 skill levels and 10 large
occupational groups. The system was created in collaboration between Employment
and Social Development Canada and Statistics Canada. The two organizations
continue to work together to maintain and update the National Occupational
Classification.
What is the NOC Canada NOC Job Classification System?
NOC (National Occupational Classification) is a coding mechanism used to classify
occupations. In other words, NOC is a systematic structure that classifies a
wide range of job activities. In addition to classifying occupations, the NOC
system also includes information about each job, including job descriptions,
skills requirements, etc.
IRCC uses this system
to analyze labor market information, job forecasting, labor supply, and demand
analysis, and in general, to manage job-related programs.
Get to know the new version of the NOC Job Classification 2021!
The first edition of the NOC was published in 1992 to
classify Canada's national occupations, and since then, it has undergone a
major structural revision every 10 years, whereby the existing occupational
groups are reviewed, along with the information collected from many relevant
stakeholders. The last version of the NOC system was introduced in 2011, and
then in 2016, the same version was updated and published by the Department of
Immigration. Canada.
Following the official announcement of IRCC, as of
November 16, 2022, the new version of the NOC system (2021) has been used for
immigration and work permit applications.
For candidates who applied before November 16, the KNOCK
2016 system will still be used.
Individuals who have a profile on the Express Entry program
will need to update it with the new code, as the Canadian Experience Programs,
Federal Skilled Worker Program, Federal Skill Trade, and Express Entry
Provincial PNP Programs will all use the new system.
Changes to the new NOC system
In the 2021 edition of the
NOC classification system, more jobs have been added to the list of
in-demand jobs, thus providing more job opportunities to applicants for these
programs. Among the major changes in the NOC system in 2021, the following can
be mentioned:

NOC Job System Classification Structure 2021
The KNOCK 2021 system is a
five-tiered hierarchical structure of occupational groups with sequential
levels, which consists of broad occupational category,
major group, sub-major group, minor group, and unit
group.
۱. دستهبندی گسترده - Broad Occupational
Category
A broad category represents a classification of occupations
defined based on the type of work performed, field of study, or industry of
employment.
II. Major Group
The main group is a two-digit code and consists of 45
categories. The first digit of this code represents a broad classification,
which is a number between zero and 9. The second digit of this code represents
the TEER
classification, which is a number between zero and 5 and represents the
necessary training, education, experience, and responsibilities of the job.
III.
Sub-major Group
Using the first two digits, the
code is identified and includes 89 categories.
4. Small Group - Minor Group
Using the first three digits, the code is identified and
includes 162 categories.
V. Unit Group
Using the first four digits, the NOC code is identified and
includes 516 categories.
It sounds a little confusing but let's make everything clear
to you with an example.
Take, for example, the job of
Civil Engineer. This job is known in the new Canadian
Occupation Classification System, NOC 2021, with the code NOC 21300. Let's define these 5 layers for this job
position:

It should be noted that in the previous system of NOC
2016, the main group was single digit and merely represented the "broad
category". For example, in the previous system, the civil engineer was
known by the code NOC 2131, which was the main group of 2.

Will knock 2021 affect the comprehensive ranking system?
Through NOC 2021, the Comprehensive Ranking System
(CRS) points given for a "job
offer" will now follow an updated skill type/level chart. For example, a
candidate who received 50 points for a "job offer" in skill
type/level 0, A, or B in the NOC
2016 version will continue to receive
these points in NOC 2021 if their NOC is in TEER 0, 1, 2, or 3will
also be obtained.
